The Senate has asked the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to present a supplementary budget to the National Assembly following the destruction of farmlands and crops by the current flooding across the country.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, stated this when he led members of his panel on an oversight function to the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
He urged the ministry to ensure full utilization of the nine billion naira released to it so far so that it would be able to plan towards the 17 billion naira due for release soon.
On his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Abubakar told the panel that his ministry had successfully trained and deployed 82,547 extension workers from 2019 to date to aid and promote local farming in Nigeria.
