With 7 days to the start of campaigns for the 20223 elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting for the Presidential and National Assembly positions.
INEC in a circular made available on their website listed the names of the final candidates, and other particulars including state of origin, age, qualifications, and the details of the vice-presidential candidates.
For the presidential elections, 18 parties will be contesting, comprising of 35 men, and 1 woman (that is for both the presidential and vice-presidential positions).
For the National Assembly, 1,101 candidates will be contesting for 109 Senatorial seats, while 3,122 candidates are in the race for House of Representatives seats.
Women are not left out, as 92 are contesting for the Senate, and 288 contesting for the House of Representatives. There are also 11 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the race.
Meanwhile, INEC listed GODSWILL AKPABIO as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom Northwest.
INEC however, did not list any name for Yobe North Senatorial District, dropping both AHMAD LAWAN and the winner of the party’s primaries BASHIR MACHINA.
