The Academic Staff Union of Universities says that it will not call off its ongoing strike until the salary arrears of its members were paid.
ASUU national president, Prof EMMANUEL OSODEKE, said this while reacting to comments made by the Minister of Education ADAMU ADAMU, who said that the federal government will not pay the backlog of salaries of the last 6 months
Prof. OSODEKE warned that the failure of government to pay the arrears, would mean that the lecturers will not teach the backlog of the last 6 months to make up for the strike.
The ASUU president threatened that if the government fail to meet their request for the arrears to be paid, then the lecturers would go ahead to start a new session, and abandon the previous session that ended mid-way.
Professor OSODEKE added that if the government wants to implement a ‘no work no pay’ policy, then the lecturers too will go ahead with a ‘no pay no work’ policy.
