14-member reconciliation committee constituted by the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, ATIKU ABUBAKAR, and Rivers State Governor, NYESOM WIKE, is set to begin its work in Abuja today.
Both men had agreed to form the committee at a meeting they held at the Abuja residence of a former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Professor JERRY GANA.
Members of the committee from Governor WIKE’s camp include former Governors SEGUN MIMIKO, DONALD DUKE and IBRAHIM DANKWAMBO; a former Attorney-General of the Federation MOHAMMED ADOKE; a former member of the House of Representatives, NNENA UKEJE, with 2 others.
Members from the ATIKU camp include a former President of the Senate, DAVID MARK; Adamawa State Governor UMARU FINTIRI; a former Governor of Cross River state, LIYEL IMOKE; a former PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, EYITAYO JEGEDE; a former Senator BEN OBI, with 2 others
The major demand of the Governor WIKE group is the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, IYORCHIA AYU, who is considered a biased ally of ATIKU ABUBAKAR.
They insist that the resignation of the National Chairman is important in addressing the imbalance of the party’s leadership, which is titled mostly in favour of the North.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the reconciliation committee, Adamawa state Governor AHMADU FINTIRI, assured party members that the 2 gladiators will eventually settle their differences, noting that the party remains united as one.
