House of Representatives have denied reports of an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker, FEMI GBAJABIAMILA.
Leader of the Northern Reps Caucus, MUSA SARKIN-ADA, raised a point of order during plenary yesterday to dismiss a report that FEMI GBAJABIAMILA was being threatened with impeachment to ensure the passage of the Water Resources bill into law.
The Deputy Speaker of the House IDRIS WASE who presided over plenary referred the matter to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges for further investigation.
After plenary, the House held a press conference at its media center, where the Majority Leader ALHASSAN ADO-DOGUWA, the Minority Leader NDUDI ELUMELU and the spokesman of the House BENJAMIN KALU all denied any impeachment plot.
The controversial Water Resources Bill seeks to bring all water resources and its banks under the control of the Federal Government, but was rejected in the 8th National Assembly and the current 9th Assembly after backlash from Nigerians.
The bill was however reintroduced in the House of Representatives on June 29.
