The Confederation of African Football CAF has shifted the Africa Cup of Nations from June 2023 to January 2024.
CAF president PATRICE MOTSEPE said the organization could not take the risk of holding the tournament in June due to fact that it falls in the height of the rainy season in Cote d’Ivoire.
The 2024 edition will be the 2nd time in a row that the tournament will be held in January and February, reversing the 2017 decision to move the event to June-July which was done in order to avoid clashing with the European football season.
Following complaints raised by Egyptian club Al Ahly earlier this year, CAF also announced that the final of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup will return back to a home and away format.
