President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has said that his administration will not remove fuel subsidy due to current realities which makes it impossible to do so.
The President in an interview session with a foreign news agency said that Western countries calling for the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria were being hypocritical, as they were implementing fuel subsidies for their own citizens.
The President also said his administration had set in motion plans to remove the subsidy since late last year, but became untenable due to recent events.
President BUHARI however noted that boosting internal production for refined products would help, saying that the country’s capacity to produce refined fuel is due to step up later this year as private companies and modular refineries come on board.
