Osun State Governor, ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA, has called on Nigerians to abandon the old primitive sentiments that have continued to threaten the unity, peace, and progress of the country.
Governor OYETOLA said this while speaking at the June 12 commemoration event held in Osogbo.
On his part, Anambra State Governor, Professor CHUKWUMA SOLUDO, said that democracy all over the world is a continuous struggle towards a better society.
Governor SOLUDO who stated this during a special church service to mark Nigeria’s June 12 Democracy Day, noted that nation building was a result of class and social struggle.
Also, Lagos State Governor, BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU said that the commemoration of another June 12 occasion must come with a deep reflection of the progress recorded so far in the nation’s democratic experiment.
Governor SANWO-OLU in a statement said that June 12 remained a rallying symbol around which Nigerians’ aspirations for unity, hope, better condition of living and true democratic practices were built.
Furthermore, Benue State Governor, SAMUEL ORTOM in his Democracy Day address, urged Nigerians to be on the alert against anti-democratic forces, saying that the country must guard its democracy jealously.
Governor ORTOM advocated for the need to strengthen democratic institutions in the country so that the practice of democracy would not be at the dictates of a few individuals.
