A former Minister of Education, OBY EZEKWESILI, has advocated the need for Nigerians and religious groups to take the issues of violence Against Women more seriously.
OBY EZEKWESILI made the call in a post on her Twitter handle, while reacting to the death of gospel singer, OSINACHI NWACHUKWU, who passed away last Friday at the age of 42.
She described gender-based violence as an epidemic in Nigeria, Africa, and globally, saying that a 2018 study revealed that 30% of women worldwide are victims of gender-based violence.
She further cited a United Nations report which said that 48% of Nigerian women have experienced at least one form of violence since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reports say that the late OSINACHI NWACHUKWU suffered violence and physical assault from her husband, who has since been arrested by the FCT Police Command.
